It is the age of the young passenger at the time of departure of the booked flight which determines which group they are allocated to.
New borns up to the age of 48 hours are not carried in order to avoid health problems. A medical certificate must be presented up until the age of 7 days.
Infants (before their 2nd birthday) without the right to their own seat and luggage allowance fly on the lap of their legal guardian/accompanying and pay 10% of the regular net-fare. The carriage of an infant is only possible in accompaniment of an adult. For safety reasons, an adult passenger may not accompany more than one infant. Please note that the number of infants per flight is limited for reasons of safety and space. If the adult accompanying person is not a legal guardian, they must present written consent from a legal guardian when checking-in (Parental authorization for child travelling (0-4 years) with a companion).
Use of child restraint systems (CRS) in Germania aircraft
According to EU-OPS 1.320 and EU-OPS 1.730, infants must be carried on the lap of the adult accompanying person and be secured by a loopbelt coupled with the safety belt of the accompanying person, provided that no other CRS is used.
Alongside securing infants with loopbelts (provided on board by Germania), Germania also accepts other CRSs for infants and children, which the passenger must bring on board themselves.
In the case of an infant being carried with a CRS other than the loopbelt, a separate seat must be booked at a child price.
The following CRSs are appropriate for Germania aircrafts, alongside the loopbelt:
The accompanying person must sit in the seat directly next to the CRS, following the cabin crew’s instructions, and is responsible for securing the CRS to the passenger seat and for securing the child in the CRS.
Should the safety criteria not be observed (i.e. if the seat is defective or cannot be secured to the aeroplane seat), the cabin crew can refuse the use of a CRS on board, despite confirmed booking.
From experience, the following models with the TÜV Rheinland (technical inspection authority) approval stamp “For use in aircraft” have proven to be particularly suitable:
The passenger must register the CRS at least 2 working days before departure by email: passage@germania.aero, tel: +49 (0) 30 52280-8266 or fax: +49 (0) 30 52280-8245.
Note:
A valid appropriate piece of identification must also be presented for infants (child passport). It is pointed out that in some countries, infants, children and teenagers under 18 must present a completed authorisation form from their legal guardian(s) in order to leave their home country (prevention of child abduction). It is the responsibility of the passenger to carry all necessary documents with them. GMI can refuse carriage if the documents are not presented. If you have any questions, please contact the Foreign Office of your destination country in order to check any country-specific particularities.
